Mohsen Mostafavi, the new dean at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, is much more than a man who understands lines, brick, and mortar.
He is a philosopher of sorts.
Since arriving from Cornell, where he served as dean of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning, Mostafavi has been thinking about how his students can be futurists, meaning how they can use their tools today to plan for the cities we will inhabit in the years ahead.
Mostafavi, who was born in Iran, recently chatted about his research, and his plans for the future of the school.

For a decade, in the 1960s, Clairtone Sound Corporation captured the spirit of the times: sophisticated, cosmopolitan, liberated.
From its modern oiled-walnut and teak consoles to its minimalist logo and promotional materials, Clairtone produced a powerful and enduring body of design work.
Founded in 1958 by two young Canadians, Peter Munk and David Gilmour, the fledgling manufacturer of hi-fi and TV consoles quickly became known for its iconic designs and masterful advertising campaigns.
With more than 70 artifacts on display - including original Clairtone hi-fi consoles, vintage furniture and fashion, as well as TV commercials from the 1960s, Hollywood film clips, interviews with the founders, archival photographs, brochures, notebooks, and rare blueprints - the exhibition is an in-depth look at an iconoclastic company that once seemed to represent all the promise of Canada.

Turkish motifs and subject matters have inspired European art and craft for centuries.
Building on and diversifying this tradition, the exhibition presents a selection of 80 objects by internationally renowned designers from modern Turkey.
The eleven artists from different generations - Alev Ebuzziya Siesbye, Gonul Paksoy, Faruk Malhan, Oya Akman, Ela Cindoruk, Defne Koz, Koray Ozgen, Can Yalman, Erdem Akan, Gulname Turan and Joelle Hancerli - have one thing in common: their work contains echoes of the Ottoman-Turkish traditions of art which have been fused with forms determined by modern functionality.
As should be the case with any masterpiece, historic motifs and concepts are not interpreted in an importunate or "regionalist" fashion, but add extra appeal to the design objects.
Eleven Turkish designers will be exhibited with works linked to Turkish culture and tradition from 16 May - 29 June 2008 at Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin.

As an Expert Witness, you can help protect the integrity and exclusivity of award-winning designs.
You can help convict copycats, protect those wrongly accused and influence court decisions with tens of millions of dollars riding on the outcome.
However, a team of tough attorneys will try to discredit your testimony, undermine your credibility and make you look stupid on the witness stand.
How can you protect your integrity?
You can learn the answers to these and many other questions by attending "How to Serve as an Expert Witness in Design Patent Litigation," IDSA's first-ever seminar focused on educating prospective Expert Witnesses.
Seminar participants must be IDSA members, hold at least a bachelor's degree in industrial design or a related field, and have 10 or more years of experience in the field.
