![]() A New Bike Share System for Copenhagen: Open Design CompetitionIn 1995, Copenhagen was the first city to introduce a modern bike share system - Bycyklen - or The City Bike. The city is the best example of how the bicycle can become the preferred form of transport in a modern city. The City of Copenhagen announced an open design competition in order to determine how a bike share system v.3.0 would look and work in the city in the future. Copenhagen has a bicycle culture that is so widespread and such a natural part of city life that very few people regard themselves as cyclists. The winning entry for a new bike share system for Copenhagen must adhere to the City's primary goals for the future development of the city. The goals are that Copenhagen must be a sustainable and dynamic city and a city for everyone. The competition entries should highlight both design and functionality. In short: What will the new bicycle and the system look like? How does it work? How will it be integrated in the city? How does the collective concept work - from booking and locating the bicycles to paying for them and delivering them back? The deadline is November 18, 2009. competition (ended) current design competitions more info www.cph... (1,012) design directory Transportation Awards added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Royal Falcon Fleet RFF135 by Porsche Design GroupThe Porsche Design Group and Singapore-based mega- yacht builder Royal Falcon Fleet have reached the first milestone of the construction of the RFF135.The first joint project for the two companies, it is a luxurious anomaly on the water: a power catamaran with a length of more than 40 metres. The outer hull and the interior are in keeping with the functional, timeless and puristic hand of the Porsche Design Studio at Zell am See (Austria), which was responsible for the styling. The appearance of the RFF135 is particularly extraordinary, as it was conceived as a "spacecraft on the water," as was requested by the customer. In this form, the catamaran platform offers completely new possibilities for configuration in exterior and interior design. Unlike a great number of mega-yachts, the interior was styled in a highly modern way and captures the dynamic contours of the hull. Its typical Porsche design is unmistakable: Luxurious and functional, it dispenses with floridness and opulence of any kind. On the contrary, an unadorned design and authentic, premium and comfortable materials constitute the flair of the interior. more Royal Falcon Fleet RFF135 by Porsche Design Group design directory Porsche Design Group > Industrial Design Companies added by Levent OZLER |
![]() Automatic Kitchen Sprinkler: Automist Wins Dyson AwardAn automatic fire suppression system has won this year's James Dyson Award. Each year more than 60,000 fires occur in UK dwellings, resulting in approximately 450 deaths and more than 11,000 injuries. It is designed for the kitchen, where 60% of domestic fires originate. Automist utilises "water-mist" which is a proven technology on ships and in factories. Water mist technology works well on both chip pan and electrical fires. The novelty of Automist lies in its modular design which means it is easy to retrofit. The stylish nozzle can be positioned underneath any standard sink tap, and is designed to blend in with your kitchen environment. In the event of a fire, a wireless heat detector triggers an under-sink pump. Heat detection is the most reliable form of fire detection and the trigger is set at the industry-standard. The pump then drives mains water through the unique nozzle unit which quickly fills the kitchen volume with fog, creating an inert atmosphere of 30% water and suppressing the blaze. more www.jam...
