![]() BDI Champions University Design Industry Partnership SchemeBritish Design Innovation (BDI), the influential trade body representing some of the best product design companies in the world, has called on Regional Development Associations (RDAs), Research Councils, Business Links and other government agencies to "put Britain first" by utilising their members' experience and expertise in publicly-funded design projects throughout the country.As a positive first step in their call to action, BDI is proposing the creation of formal design and innovation partnerships between top-class private sector design companies and higher education institutions (HEIs). ![]() Per Fare Un Albero: The Milan Municipality and Fiat for the Milanese SummerUntil September 30th, the street par excellence of Milan's fashion hub will host the initiative "Per fare un albero" ("To make a tree"), the result of an idea of the Municipality of Milan - Department for Design, Events and Fashion in collaboration with Fiat Automobiles.Twenty fibreglass structures in the shape of the Fiat 500C, created by the designer Fabio Novembre in a 1:1 scale, containing trees of different shapes and sizes will, in fact, be positioned in via Montenapoleone to colour and make the summer more liveable in the Lombardy capital. "Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Milan and Fiat, and the creativity of Fabio Novembre - as Alderman Giovanni Terzi commented - the Milanese street par excellence, known throughout the world as a premiere fashion hub, will, from today onwards, become the image of an open city even in August. A public area where design, productivity and entrepreneurial commitment, will join forces to guarantee a service to everyone". ![]() The Future of Retail SymposiumFabrica, Benetton's communication research centre, holds a symposium on September 5 entitled The Future of Retail at the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, the world's top interactive arts event.The symposium's aim is to outline new approaches and opportunities for improving customer experience in clothing stores. Starting from the observation that digital, interactive and network technology constitute an as yet unexplored world of possibilities for fashion retailing, especially as regards customer experience, the symposium will attempt to define possible ideas and future scenarios conducive to offering customers an increasingly advanced, engaging shopping experience. The Future of Retail is the fruit of a partnership involving Fabrica, Telecom Italia Future Centre, Ars Electronica FutureLab (Linz) and the London College of Fashion. This collaborative effort will continue after the symposium for a year, during which the partners will work together to create a range of innovative clothing store prototypes. ![]() Sanandan Sudhir Bags IDSA's International Design Excellence AwardSanandan Sudhir, Vice President, Design at Innovative Design Engineering Animation has been awarded "Silver Award" for the design of Discovery MR, a Medical and Scientific product by Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).Sanandan Sudhir designed the product with team at GE HealthCare. The Discovery MR helps minimize patient anxiety when undergoing an MRI procedure. The table is removable, so patients can be prepped in a separate room away from the imposing device. The touchstrip and in-room console allow the technologist to remain at the patient's side while completing the setup procedures in the scan room.
