 Long-D: Dual-Time Wall ClockTaipei based designer Kit Men Keung has created a new dual-time wall clock for Taiwanese brand Verso Lab.Long-D is a dual-time wall clock collection developed for Taiwanese company Verso Lab. Intended to allow users to read the times of twin time zones in a visually subtle style while maintaining a regular relationship with someone on the other side of the globe. The colour contrast of secondary clock hands have been delicately reduced to appear like a shadow on the interface acting as a conscious reminder of the distance between the user and their connections abroad.  2009-2011 Icsid Executive Board Elected in SingaporeThe International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) Executive Board of Directors for the 2009-2011 term was announced at the close of the Icsid General Assembly on 27 November 2009.The biennial election was the highlight of a week-long Icsid World Design Congress and General Assembly schedule. 15 nominations from around the world were received for the nine board vacancies. Dr. Mark Breitenberg (USA) becomes the president to lead Icsid this term. He is Provost at California College of the Arts, USA. Formerly, he was the Dean of Humanities and Design Science at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He has served three terms on Icsid's Executive Board, as board member for two terms and as President Elect 2007-2009. The new Board will hold its next meeting in Montreal, Canada in January 2010. "The extensive knowledge and varied backgrounds of the new Executive Board members will be a valuable asset to our organisation and to the industrial design profession at this important juncture in its evolution," said Dilki de Silva, Secretary General of Icsid. "As the board develops policies and programs for the new term, Icsid will ensure that the voices of all members are heard through a meaningful, ongoing consultation process.  The Fennia Prize 2009 on Display in Seoul in DecemberThe winning entries of the Fennia Prize 2009 competition will be shown in Seoul at the World Best Design Exhibition.The venue is the Songdo Convensia Incheon Convention Center near International Airport. World Best Design Exchange is a section of Design Korea 2009, involving design-prize exhibitions similar to the Fennia Prize from all over the world, from a total of 21 design organizations and 19 countries. The local organizing body is the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), which has been an active partner in collaboration with Design Forum Finland since 2003. Along with the Fennia Prize winners, Finnish products will also be on display in the theme Zone of Design Korea 2009, focusing on environmentally friendly manufacturing with the theme "Design, Engine of Green Growth."  International Design Excellence Awards 2010One of the world's most prestigious industrial design competitions is open for submissions.Entries into the 2010 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) are now being accepted. Co-sponsored by IDSA and FastCompany, the annual IDEA competition generates global attention from designers, business leaders and consumers as a powerful endorsement of the aesthetics and usability of winning designs. An international jury chaired by John Barratt, IDSA, President and CEO of Teague, will select this year's award winners. As in past years, submissions will be accepted online for the first round of judging. Applicants who make it to the second round in certain categories will be invited to submit physical samples; all finalists are welcome to submit videos, scale models, prototypes, extra images, product spec sheets or other category-specific materials.  Ferrari Coinages by PininfarinaBolaffi, Pininfarina and Ferrari came together in Milan to present Ferrari Coinages by Pininfarina, a collection of art realised by Bolaffi.It consists of six medals, set in a sculpture of transparent resin, each portraying a detail of the motorcars that have made automobile history. Art, automobiles and Italian design: made-in-Italy is united in this exclusive collection, the outcome of the synergy of the ideas, of the skills and of the passion of the three great groups. Pininfarina and Ferrari selected the Ferrari models to replicate and singled out the details to be designed on the coins. Bolaffi, since 1890 one of the world's leading companies of international collecting, thanks to its exclusive numismatic license with the Ferrari trademark, realised the works, dedicated to art collectors and to fans of the "Cavallino Rampante" - Prancing Horse. Each single piece is a "sheet of ice" with the serigraphy profile of the vehicle on it; the medal embedded in the sculpture depicts a detail of the auto taken from the original Pininfarina sketches. more www.bol...
