![]() Re-interpreting Nature: Finnish Design on Show in October in BudapestA dialogue with nature has been a prime force throughout the history of Finnish design. In the early 20th century design actively referred to the motifs and metaphors of nature. During the 1950s and 1960s a reputation was established that is still valued and appreciated internationally and the beginning of the 21st century has introduced new currents in Finnish design. Rapid technological progress has made possible things that could not even be dreamed about ten years ago. Finland has become an international leader in technology, while the wilderness regions of Finland fascinate and attract growing numbers of tourists. Design Forum Finland's exhibition Re-interpreting Nature studies how Finnish design of the 2000s addresses interpretations of nature. It presents the ways in which designers perceive the ever-changing world around them. The dialogue of design and nature is changing. Do the themes of design, art and architecture still reflect the colours, patterns, rhythms and textures of the northern forests? The selected exhibits represent different perspectives on interpreting nature in the 21st century. Insight, conscience, essence, interface, surface and inter-urban are the perspectives for outlining and perceiving relationships with nature. The exhibition features one-off works of applied art along with products manufactured in series, technological innovations and new applications of traditional methods and materials. event (ended) current design events more Re-interpreting Nature: Finnish Design on Show in October in Budapest design directory Design Forum Finland > Design Organizations added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Designer's: Exhibit, Product, Graphic, Fashion and FoodThis is a review of the work of over 100 products, fashion, food and visual graphic designs, representing the complete expression of a flow of ideas, languages, research, products and innovations, which together help us to better understand contemporary design trends. In this title, a large number of authors analyse the work of designers, whose different profiles are based on their different generations and topical research approaches. They are analysed through essays and interviews, and, while not presuming to exhaustively profile the designers being examined, the authors consistently provide us with an interesting and original key for interpreting the people studied. more Designer's: Exhibit, Product, Graphic, Fashion and Food design directory Designer's: Exhibit, Product, Graphic, Fashion and Food > Design Books added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Good Design: Stories from Herman MillerThe Muskegon Museum of Art announced its creation of the traveling design exhibition Good Design: Stories from Herman Miller. The exhibition opens in Muskegon on August 20, 2009, and will subsequently tour as many as 15 American cities into 2013. The exhibition explores the collaborative problem-solving design process employed at the world-renowned and West Michigan-based furniture company, Herman Miller, Inc. The interpretive exhibition is organized by the Muskegon Museum of Art (MMA) in collaboration with The Henry Ford, Dearborn, Michigan, drawing upon that institution's Herman Miller Design Collection - a comprehensive archive of the company's innovative processes and products. MMA Executive Director Judith A. Hayner's long-standing interest in modern design sparked a dream of showcasing original designed artifacts along with their drawings and prototypes. This exhibition is the fruition of her goal. "With Herman Miller operating in our back yard, it is important for the Museum to hold up and examine the process of design as its been practiced in West Michigan for nearly eight decades. We decided to focus on case studies that explore design problems and solutions created by some of the talented artists who have created masterpieces of modern design for the company, and continue to do so today." event (ended) current design events more info www.mus... ![]() Sohrab Vossoughi: How to Create Experiences to Bring a Brand's Story to LifeSohrab Vossoughi believes in love - the love marketers must create when trying to connect with consumers.Mr. Vossoughi, the founder and principal of Ziba Design, said his job is to help clients create experiences for their customers, because the "experience is what brings them back for more." He launched Ziba, a product-development firm, in 1984 and directs projects for marketers including McDonald's, FedEx, Hyundai, Whirlpool, Xerox, Black & Decker, Samsung, Microsoft, Nike, Pioneer, Sanyo and Coleman. "We design experiences in multiple platforms - object, communications, environment interaction / interface and the combination of all of those," he said. One notable achievement for Mr. Vossoughi, who also held industrial and product-design positions at Hewlett-Packard Corp., has been the work his firm did a few years ago for Oregon bank Umpqua Bank, which wanted to reinvent the retail-banking experience. Ziba redesigned everything from furniture to fixtures to layout to environmental graphics and collateral materials, including gift cards and coffee coasters. "It was a very holistic kind of experience that was in line with what they really were about, the essence of their brand, and connected them to their core customers," Mr. Vossoughi said. In an interview with Advertising Age, at a time when connecting with value-seeking, penny-pinching consumers has never been more critical, he discussed the necessity for marketers to create authentically designed experiences for them, from media platforms to in-store environments to products. more adage.c...
