![]() Bauhaus: A Conceptual ModelFor the first time, the three German Bauhaus institutions are uniting to present a comprehensive exhibition about the Bauhaus, the most influential school for art, design and architecture of the 20th century.Numerous, to a large extent widely unknown objects will make "Bauhaus. A Conceptual Model" a unique exhibition that will dominate Berlin's cultural summer. The primary supporter of the exhibition, which honours the ninetieth anniversary of the foundation of the State Bauhaus in Weimar, is the national Kulturstiftung (Culture Foundation). "Bauhaus. A Conceptual Model" will be shown until 4 October 2009 in the Martin-Gropius-Bau. "Bauhaus. A Conceptual Model" recounts the story of the Bauhaus in a comprehensive presentation of the works of its masters and students as well as the most important school issues. Inter-disciplinary, experimental teaching, the concept of practice-oriented workshops, the pursuit of answers to social questions, the propagation of timeless aesthetics as well as experimentation with new procedures and materials in architecture and design were the school's most important concerns. The exhibition focuses on the comprehensive significance of the Bauhaus in regard to the develop-ment and internationalisation of modernity and goes beyond, examining its world-wide, lasting impact on architecture and design up until the present day. event (ended) current design events more Bauhaus: A Conceptual Model design directory Design Events added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Sollos: Shining Corona Highlights Home and OfficeTechnical expertise and a typical German, Bauhaus-inspired visual vocabulary are the trademarks of idee.design.licht.The Saxon lighting manufactory now adds another highlight to its program, which combines strict minimalist design with compelling decorative qualities: "Sollos" is the name of the new lighting family, for which designer Ralf Brenner strips down his design to the pure luminaire - a compact, energy-efficient ring-shaped fluorescent lamp - only adding very few intricate details. Sollos comprises a complete lighting family for private living as well as the offices and public areas. Lamp socket and base plate can be ordered with white, anthracite and matt black coating. Typical characteristics of the series are its red details, as for instance the aluminium dimmer at the centre of the socket, which allows adjusting the light intensity from bright beams to a diffuse-cosy glowing. Sollos shines with decorative qualities in many areas; e.g. as a single lamp at reception areas, meeting places, arrayed or grouped in generous spaces: The diffuse radiating corona hovers weightlessly on top of the aluminium base, which is supported either by a steel post or suspended by a tool-free adjustable steel cord. The compact, energy-efficient ring-shaped fluorescent lamp at the centre of the light is dimmable and can easily be replaced. more Sollos: Shining Corona Highlights Home and Office design directory Idee.design.licht. > Lighting Design Manufacturers added by Levent OZLER |

![]() Rough Construction Chair by KassenRough Construction Chair started off as a kind of exploration that turned into a pretty nice little chair and stool.Like most things in the lumber yard, steel framing studs have a inconspicuous life. They are cold formed at a plant, banded and shipped to a supplier. From there to the job-site, where they are cut, installed and covered over. Here they will stand for life of the wall quietly doing their jobs until they are unceremoniously cut away to the recycling heap. Kassen wanted to show of the utility and perhaps the hidden beauty of the material. Like the studs themselves, these chairs are designed to emphasize the real utility of its application: To hold you up well. The design, however, employs ergonomic principles in concert with the qualities of galvanized steel. Finally, they're spot-welded and braced for strength. The chairs are hand-fabricated to give a rough construction feel and finished in bare galvanized steel or painted a utilitarian grey. more www.kas...
