The Corning Museum of Glass brings the live glassmaking experience beyond the walls of the Museum in GlassLab, a new initiative that pairs master glassmakers with some of the most creative minds working in design today.
Created in collaboration with the Vitra Design Museum, GlassLab debuted at Design Miami in December 2007.
The event will take place at the Cooper-Hewitt and will feature designers Harry Allen, an interior designer whose projects range from the offices of Metropolis magazine and the Guggenheim New York to his own line of furniture called Living Systems; and husband and wife partners Laurene and Constantin Boym, who are known for their work with notable brands Alessi, Droog, Swatch, and Vitra.
In addition, Tobias Wong, Antenna Design, and Chad Philips of Kidrobot will also be a part of these design performances.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York currently is exhibiting a chair designed by Dutch artist Joris Laarman, but created with the help of automotive engineer Dr. Lothar Harzheim, GM Europe Engineering Center in Russelsheim.
The exhibit is part of a special MoMA exhibition, "Design and the Elastic Mind".
To highlight the close relationship between art, technology and nature, exhibition organizers are displaying the "Bionic bone chair" alongside an Opel Vectra engine mounting, both of which were developed following biological construction principles.
The engine mounting and designer chair were created using a special computer simulation process developed in 1994 by Dr. Lothar Harzheim's team to make GME brand cars, such as Opel/Vauxhall and Saab in Russelsheim.
Bionics is a branch of science that systematically analyses the rules of design and growth in nature and how they can be applied to new technological developments.
Natural structures are extremely durable and reliable with minimum use of materials.
The automotive industry uses bionics to help make components strong, durable and lightweight - therefore more energy efficient - without compromising on safety.
Laarman found he could use this tool to create elegant form without skimping on function.

Daylight in a room indoor gives information or signs of something outside the physical room.
These signs give us a subconscious feeling that our perceived space is lager than the physical room.
The contrast between outdoor and indoor decreases.
When daylight in a room is removed, the feeling of space decreases, and the contrast between outdoor and indoor increases.
I believe that this can result in a feeling of being enclosed for many of us, to be alone or lonely -a social block.
"subconscious effect of daylight" tries to replicate the effect of having daylight indoor.
The concept is to create a feeling of natural, direct sunshine.
This imitation is created through projecting a light pattern giving a recognizable illusion of natural light and shadows.
