American Innovation on Display at ICFF

American Innovation on Display at ICFF

The New York City chapter of the Industrial Designers Society of American is organizing its third annual exhibit of industrial design work at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, May 17-20, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

IDSA will be represented by approximately 15 designers from San Francisco, Atlanta and New York who will display their innovative furniture, lighting and accessory designs.

"As with last year, we continue to see this as an opportunity for IDSA members, especially emerging designers," said Meredith Goodwin Bajaj, president of IDSA.NYC.

"It is a really talented group of designers and IDSA is glad to be putting their work in the global spotlight here at ICFF.

Exhibiting at the ICFF connects you with the New York design scene more than any other event.

We can't wait until May-we're so proud to create this opportunity for our membership!"

IDSA's member-exhibitors are excited about the opportunity, as well.

Akemi Tanaka, a third-year exhibitor at the Javits proceedings, remarked "I am thrilled that IDSA is enabling so many up-and-coming, contemporary furniture designers to exhibit their work at ICFF.

It is such a wonderful opportunity for members of the industrial design community!"

New Comply Earphones Enhance the Travel Experience

New Comply Earphones Enhance the Travel Experience

Comply NR-10 earphones provide consumers with military-grade noise reduction.

Military-grade noise reduction is now available to weary travelers and consumers alike thanks to Hearing Components' Comply NR-10 High Tech Noise Reducing Earphones.

Utilizing the same patented technology used by U.S.

Army helicopter crews and Special Forces, the NR-10 earphones offer superior noise reduction by preventing outside noise from interfering with the audio experience.

Engineered to maximize bass response and deliver superior sound quality, the earphones are proven to deliver 48 decibels of noise reduction.

This technology blocks out more noise than the leading active noise cancellation earphones.

Unlike active "noise canceling" headphones, this passive noise reduction technology incorporated into the Comply NR-10 earphones does not require separate batteries.

Erick van Egeraat Designs New Series of Door Handles for Post En Eger

Erick van Egeraat Designs New Series of Door Handles for Post En Eger

Post En Eger presented "Erick", its latest line of door handles, designed by internationally renowned architect Erick van Egeraat.

The handle looks and feels both pleasant and solid and also allows a door to be opened without holding the handle in one's fingers.

"In the design of buildings we are often too focussed on visual effects, thereby forgetting that the quality of a building almost entirely depends on its ability to be tactile.

How does it feel when you touch it? For this reason, a door and its handle are so important for your appreciation of a house or a building.

Contemporary door handles," Erick van Egeraat continues, "are often too rigid in their design to be truly comfortable.

That's why I wanted to design a door handle that makes you want to open a door over and over again."

Despite its luxurious looks and ergonomic character, model "Erick" is easy to manufacture.

It uses standard fittings and the base model allows for cost-effective production.

Due to its symmetry, it can be used on doors opening to the left and to the right and according to EN 179 regulations for emergency door furniture.

Moreover, the handle combines with the entire P+E programme.

The use of material for the new door handle is modular.

While the basic stainless steel version offers good value for money, more exclusive demand can be met with glossy-white, bronze or leather outfits.

Let There Be Light Salone Del Mobile 08

Let There Be Light: Salone Del Mobile 08

The concepts and the projects of light, elaborated by the students of SAIC, which Industreal propose in an exhibition to be shown at the Fabbrica del Vapore during the Salone del Mobile 2008, will be above all, an up-to-date reflection about the form of illumination.

Industreal has shared in this research convinced that light is made of the same material from which ideas are made and maybe it is not a coincidence that a flash of genius is often represented in drawings by a light bulb above a head.

However, to conceive and design light means thinking modestly in the same terms as in the original of all creativity, echoed in phrase from Genesis: 'let there be light' and there was light, light was good and light was separated from darkness.

Light steals things from the darkness taking them into the world of things illuminated which then exist in our eyes due to the virtue of the light itself.

Proposing a project of ideas for students, around the concept of light, we should reflect (another luminous terminology) on the potential either of direct light or reflected light.

Light is not necessarily electric light, light is fire or flame, ray or mirror, crystal or window, jewel or opening, lens or spark.

However, designing light signifies that we must concentrate on a concept simple and powerful, with a significance that appreciates flights of fantasy and poetic gestures.
