 Andromeda Presents Fluxus: The Wave of Light and GlassA world preview of the new artwork by Andromeda: Fluxus, a wavering Murano glass sculpture created to adorn White Gallery the first big lifestyle store to be opened in Rome in October 2009.Fluxus is the result of the cooperation between designer Karim Rashid who designed the Knit - individual hand-made glass element - and Artist Michela Vianello, whose inspiration gave concrete shape to the overall concept of the sculpture. The use of a single design element in an artistic context led up to a suspended and apparently fluid surface consisting of a multitude of elements whose balance derives from the overall composing motion: a fabric of energy flowing through points and lines, creating marked paths and colours able to generate the expression of motion in space. The sole Knit element covers a recurrence of overtones: white to black passing through 3 nuances of grey to transmit constant visual vibrations.  Audi Design Award Finalists Announced: Dutch Public Chooses Best Dutch Design 2009The selection committee headed by Floris van Bommel has announced the names of the six finalists for the Audi Design Award.The public can vote for their favourite design via the online voting module. The selection committee has selected from more than 700 entries six finalists for the Audi Design Award, the public award of the internationally renowned Dutch Design Awards. The submissions are comprised of open entries and scouted entries, and represent the very best Dutch Design of this year. This year's finalists are: Firma Rieks Swarte with an animated picture story 'L'enfant et les Sortilèges' by Maurice Ravel, Eddy Kaijser, Bart Cardinaal & Nadine Roos with The Flying Grass Carpet, Studio Wieki Somers with Merry-go-round coat rack, Aldo Bakker with porcelain table ware, Urban Alliance with Moodwall, and Maarten Baas with Real Time.  DMI Introduces New Identity and Strategic PlanWith nearly 150 design and business leaders in attendance, Thomas Lockwood PhD, President of the Design Management Institute (DMI) unveiled the organization's new identity at the 2009 DMI Re-Thinking... Design conference, in San Francisco in June.Reflecting the DMI's vision of community, connections, inspiration and global reach, the new identity reinforces DMI's commitment to creating and sharing knowledge about design management and the role of design in business success. DMI, in collaboration with design consultancies Lucid Brands, Continuum and LPK, and the IIT Institute of Design, has spent the last twenty four months redefining their business strategy, positioning, and branding. Research with DMI members, key thought leaders in business and design, in the form of individual and group interviews, were conducted in the U.S. and abroad including in Copenhagen, Chicago, and Shenzhen, China.  Andrea Siodmok: Dott Cornwall Appoints Programme DirectorDr Andrea Siodmok has been appointed by Cornwall Council to be Programme Director of Dott Cornwall.She will be leaving her job as Chief Design Officer of the Design Council to take up the post in Cornwall in August. Dott (Designs of the time) is the second in a pioneering initiative from the Design Council using design to help communities create their local services and develop solutions to local problems. The Design Council will deliver the 18-month programme in partnership with the new unitary Cornwall Council and University College Falmouth. As Programme Director, Siodmok will run a series of community design projects intended to give the people of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles the chance to help design the places where they live, work and play and the services they use. Dott will also provide new skills and new opportunities for the Cornish design sector.  Design Council and BCC Announce Partnership to Promote the Value of DesignThe Design Council and the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) have announced a new partnership that will see the two organisations working together to promote the value of design to UK businesses.In a move specifically designed to help businesses survive the recession, the partnership will provide practical ways to help the 100,000 businesses in the BCC network to use design to become more innovative and competitive. The partnership will also collaborate to promote a wider message nationally and internationally about the importance of design to the business sector. "The future of the UK economy is dependent on the dynamism and effectiveness of our private sector and in particular small and medium sized firms," said David Frost, Director General, BCC.
