The Business Ready seminar series aims to improve the business and export capabilities of Victorian designers.
Many companies believe that design is a waste of money because it is too easy for it to be ripped off.
Many are asking "Why invest in design when the investment is only short term?"
The reality is that rip offs occur because most clients fail to protect their designs properly.
Following the success of last year's seminar, Trevor Choy will explain the critical role which designers play in creating brands that can be protected.
Through case studies, Trevor will illustrate how Australia's leading designers are helping their clients protect their investments in brand design.

In the era of globalisation, cueing in on countries' cultural traditions can be of great benefit in achieving differentiation in the market.
Preserving the distinct features of individual cultures by means of design is thus of great import.
No wonder then that design-as the language of a society-is placing more emphasis than ever on mindful details that give a product an identity of origin.
For example, the umbrellas stashed inside the doors of any Rolls Royce give the luxury car its unique British allure.
Likewise, innovative interpretations of Asian culinary culture in kitchenware have special appeal for many.
This year's awards demonstrate: Design revolves around people! Contemporary product design not only has to be aesthetically pleasing, it must also trigger emotions and make everyday life as comfortable as possible.

Design is of great significance for a company's commercial success, because design provides good ideas with a form and is indispensable for differentiation in the global market.
Many companies have come to internalise this realisation, as the results of this year's red dot design award clearly demonstrate: for the first time 1,253 companies from 51 countries submitted more than 3,200 products for expert assessment in Essen.
The winners of the red dot award: product design 2008, one of the largest and most renowned international design competitions, have now been selected.
In total 50 top products received the "red dot: best of the best" for their outstanding and innovative design, another 676 received the "red dot" quality seal for high design quality.
The festive awards presentation with more than 1,000 guests will take place on 23 June 2008 in the Essen Opera House, the Aalto Theatre.
Successful products are in so far different from less successful products that they can survive in the real world," explains design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award.
