Crafting strategy remains a top priority for senior leaders as globalization accelerates, competition grows, and customers' needs evolve.
Successful strategies answer key questions such as, "What business should we be in?" "How do we compete?" "Where are we headed?" and "How do we get there?"
The potential is significant- strategies can change the fortunes of a company because they originate from a point of high leverage-the executive suite.
However, many senior leaders find that once the strategy has been formulated, the more difficult part is getting the organization to understand and adopt it.
And despite broad distribution of strategy decks, activities like town halls, plant visits, and creating new performance measures, strategy implementation is fraught with inaction.
Fortunately, the design discipline, with its orientation to problem solving and making the future tangible, has something very powerful to offer.
In this webinar, Professor Chris Conley will discuss how design expertise can be used to help companies implement the strategy they've worked so hard to create.

Webert, with the support of the ADI, Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (association for the industrial design), organizes a contest for the design of an innovative single lever mixer or double control taps for bathroom and kitchen, which are technically feasable and can be industrially manufactured.
The projects will have to combine aesthetic values with functional values and create a shape for a serial industrial product, suitable to its practical function.
The sets of mixer taps must be composed of: a washbasin and a bath tub set including shower head; a kitchen sink mixer with swivel spout or with pull-out-spray.
The mixer tap must use a mixer cartridge. The two handles mixer tap must use 2 ceramic valves.
Participation is open to Italian or foreign professional designers such as architects or engineers, who are either self-employed or employed by companies if authorised by the latter.
Groups of designers are also allowed to participate, but a group leader must be appointed to have sole responsibility and act as contact person with Webert.

Today's product designers are presented with a myriad of choices when creating their work and preparing it for manufacture.
They have to be knowledgeable about a vast repertoire of processes, ranging from what used to be known as traditional "crafts" to the latest technology, to enable their designs to be manufactured effectively and efficiently.
Information on the internet about such processes is often unreliable, and search engines do not usefully organize material for designers.
This fundamental new resource explores innovative production techniques and materials that are having an impact on the design industry worldwide.
Organized into four easily referenced parts-Forming, Cutting, Joining, and Finishing-over seventy manufacturing processes are explained in depth with full technical descriptions; analyses of the typical applications, design opportunities, and considerations each process offers; and information on cost, speed, and environmental impact.
The accompanying step-by-step case studies look at a product or component being manufactured at a leading international supplier.
A directory of more than fifty materials includes a detailed technical profile, images of typical applications and finishes, and an overview of each material's design characteristics.

If "the future doesn't need us," (Bill Joy), then tomorrow's design will certainly not need designers.
Already, the designer's responsibility has shifted from creating objects and experiences to creating the conditions for innovation - developing human links between bits, atoms, neurons, and genes.
"Design thinking" is nice, but it becomes meaningless if and when artificial intelligence starts doing the thinking, and the design, for us.
This panel discusses whether the designer's role in the 21st century is to serve as devil's advocate, providing a (false) sense of personal safety in times of genetic engineering, personalized machines, and a new singularity.
In other words: Is it time to start designing for a time after design?
