Good Design for Good Business DME Workshop in Izmir

Good Design for Good Business: DME Workshop in Izmir

Izmir is the next stop in the series of workshops organised by the Design Management Europe Award (DME Award).

During the workshop, Vito Orazem, managing director of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, will give a lecture on the topic "Good Design for Good Business".

The workshop will be held on 29 April 2008 in cooperation with the Turkish project partner Izmir Abigem Consultancy and Training.

The series of workshops that has already been stopping over in Tallin (Estonia), Riga (Latvia) and Vilnius (Lithuania) will now be continued in Izmir and will have its last stop in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in October.

Vito Orazem will discuss the questions why design is so important on globalised markets and how companies may use design to increase their business success.

In doing so he will rely on the more than 50 years of experience of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen with regard to design promotion.

The most important means for design promotion is the red dot design award.

This annually announced international design competition is furnishing companies with its "red dot" quality seal so that they may communicate effectively their excellent design performances.

Moreover, the Design Zentrum particularly promotes small- and middle-sized companies with special branch competitions, courses, congresses, publications and exhibitions.

Sustainable Bio-plastic Can Damage the Environment

Sustainable Bio-plastic Can Damage the Environment

The worldwide effort by supermarkets and industry to replace conventional oil-based plastic with eco-friendly "bioplastics" made from plants is causing environmental problems and consumer confusion, according to a Guardian study.

The substitutes can increase emissions of greenhouse gases on landfill sites, some need high temperatures to decompose and others cannot be recycled in Britain.

Many of the bioplastics are also contributing to the global food crisis by taking over large areas of land previously used to grow crops for human consumption.

Summer Institute in Sustainable Design

Summer Institute in Sustainable Design

This two-week immersion program enables practicing professionals in design and other disciplines to come together to learn about and discuss cutting-edge green strategies and their applications in the realm of design.

Hands-on fieldwork and in-class lectures with industry leaders -- including Jay Baldwin, Yves Behar, Lynda Grose, Mandana MacPherson -- whose expertise in sustainable design will give you the skills to position yourself as a sustainable-design leader in your company or workplace.

In creating the Summer Institute in Sustainable Design, CCA draws on its 10-plus years of experience as a leader in sustainability and its long tradition of interdisciplinarity.

The program is fully interactive.

Participants learn from working professionals and practitioners in a variety of fields as well as instructors from CCA, Stanford, MIT, and other top academic institutions in the United States and England.

"Unlike the typical 'talking head' conference, the Summer Institute in Sustainable Design offers a focused, relaxed atmosphere for learning," says Sue Redding, an Industrial Design instructor at CCA who helped create the program.

Top Designer in Call for Action Over Bad Design

Top Designer in Call for Action Over Bad Design

Former Pentagram partner Kenneth Grange is calling for British designers to be as willing as their French cousins to make a stand and fight on issues they care about.

Speaking at the Meeting Of Minds event at the British Museum in London last night, Grange said, "Instead of us seeing the same work regurgitated time and again, designers should be trying to move design on".

He added, "If we think something is terrible then we should remember that we have the skills to make changes."
