 Creation of Department for Business, Innovation and Skills: a Bold MoveBritish Design Innovation (BDI), the influential trade organisation which represents many of the top strategic design companies in the UK, has given a cautious welcome to last week's news that the UK government has created a new Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) under Lord Mandelson.Just two years after its creation, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) has been scrapped and its responsibilities absorbed into the new department. "In light of the ongoing national debate about the role strategic design and universities play in the UK's business, design and innovation strategy, the creation of a new department at this time is a bold move," said Maxine J Horn, BDI's CEO.
