 Fujitsu Hosts Mobile Phone Design Award 2009Fujitsu announced the Fujitsu Mobile Phone Design Award 2009, a design contest open to the public to enhance state of the art mobile phone designs.As part of the pursuit in finding designs that meet the ever-changing and diverse needs of phone users, this contest aims to alleviate the pool of design concepts for Fujitsu's mobile phones. To host the event, Fujitsu is collaborating with the Japan Design Association, which has close ties to designers in Japan and around the world. The panel of judges include product designer Toshiyuki Kita, art director Manabu Mizuno, Nikkei Design Magazine's chief editor Kazuya Shimokawa, and art director and the Japan Design Association's chairman Katsumi Asaba.  British Design Innovation Lauds HSBC ReportBritish Design Innovation (BDI), the influential trade body representing many of the top 15% of strategic design firms adding most value to industry, has responded positively to today's publication of The Future of Business: The Changing Face of Business in 21st Century Britain by HSBC Commercial Bank.The report predicts the rise of innovation, technology and wireless connectivity in regional economic hotspots and "supercities" such as Brighton, Leeds, Liverpool, London and Newcastle over the next 20 years. These supercities and regions will derive their status, income and prestige from new economic income streams such as biotech, stem cell research, innovation, creative industries, games development and even alternative work practices and business models.  Winning Poster Selected for World Industrial Design Day 2009The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) announced the winner of the first student poster competition for World Industrial Design Day.The winning entry was submitted by Carla Sapiain, from the Instituto Profesional DuocUC de la Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile. In preparation for World Industrial Design Day on 29 June, Icsid invited students from its member schools to design a poster reflecting this year's theme 'Industrial Design: the product of human creativity'. "The level of effort put into the pre-production of the poster is worth noting," commented Martin Darbyshire, Icsid Board Member and Jury Chair, about the winning entry. "The image of the tree is a good metaphor for the organic nature of industrial design, as well as a powerful and evocative reminder of our responsibilities.
