 The Sami Knife II at Design Forum FinlandGlobal design and local Finnish design and production meet at The Sami Knife II exhibition at Design Forum Finland.22 designers have searched for a new form for the traditional Sami Knife. In addition to top designers from the Nordic countries, the participants include designers among the most interesting ones in the world at the moment. "Updating" the Sami Knife has been an ambitious task on which all the invited designers wanted to express their views. The exhibition was on display at the Sami Museum Siida in Inari during the summer 2009 and it will tour later abroad. The Sami Knife is a basic tool which has a development of 300 years behind it. The skill of crafting a traditional Sami knife is about to disappear.  Simple and Clever Head for the BMW MuseumIn the course of its history, BMW has repeatedly provided impulses for the further development of personal mobility through innovative vehicle and drive concepts.Last year's special exhibition "Concept Vehicles" at the BMW Museum presented a selection of these unusual concepts. Now two more vehicles added to the exhibition, Simple and Clever. Simple combines features and advantages from both automobiles and motorcycles. The concept owes its passenger cell to the car, providing protection from wind and weather as well as shielding the driver from exterior noise and offering occupants a high degree of safety in the event of an accident. The motorcycle inspired the slim design of the Simple (at just 110 centimetres wide) and its configuration for two people sitting one behind the other. Plus it boasts the dynamic driving style typical of a two-wheeler, allowing you to lean right into corners as desired. CLEVER is the acronym for "Compact Low Emission Vehicle for Urban Transport" and refers to a research project aimed at producing a low-emission, practical city vehicle. Being CLEVER means sitting one behind the other in a three-wheeled vehicle driven by a low-emission natural gas engine. And that adds up to low aerodynamic drag, minimal weight and a small road footprint: the research vehicle is around 3 metres long, 1 metre wide and 1.4 metres tall, weighs in at under 400 kilograms and offers no more than a square metre of frontal area to the airstream. more Simple and Clever Head for the BMW Museum added by Levent OZLER |
 Red Dot Design Team of the Year 2009 in SingaporeSince 17 September 2009 products of the Tupperware Worldwide Design Team, which received the title "red dot: design team of the year 2009" at a festive gala in Essen, Germany on 29 June 2009, have been on show at the red dot design museum Singapore.Thus the design team headed by Vice President Susan Perkins was honoured for its continuous design achievements and the products that have also won several accolades in the red dot design award. "Winning the red dot design awards is an indication that we are keeping up with our commitment in delivering functional, yet stylish products to our everyday consumer.  Classics for Kids: The Special Edition of the Thonet Classics 214 and S 43 for KidsGreat classics for little people: the Thonet company will be producing two icons of furniture design in a special edition for children.For this year's Christmas season, the company will launch a children's version in light pastel colours of both the famous coffee house chair 214 and the tubular steel cantilever chair S 43. The children's version of the famous coffee house chair No. 14 (today called the 214), is a smaller version of the original coffee house chair, developed in 1873 by one of the sons of company founder Michael Thonet, and will be produced under the label 14KR and feature the typical wickerwork seat. Also available as 14 KM is a version with a wooden seat in light blue, yellow, pink or white. There will also be a new children's version of the 1931 cantilever chair by Mart Stam, which was developed during the Bauhaus period.  BMW C1-E: Concept for a Higher Level of Safety in the CityThis is what a safe, environment-friendly and highly practical single track vehicle for city traffic could look like in the future.BMW Motorrad developed the C1-E study as a contribution to the European safety project eSUM. This study unit is based on the concept of the BMW C1. It is characterized by a very high level of active and passive safety and is driven by an electric motor. The BMW C1-E provides exemplary protection for its rider. This is ensured by the safety cell with the conspicuous roll-over bar which dynamically spans the rider seat in combination with the energy-absorbing impact element at the nose end. A further special point is that the C1-E rider wears a seat-belt. In the study this safety feature is highlighted by red belts and belt buckles. Visually the concept vehicle expresses brand typical sheer driving pleasure and clearly distinguishes itself from typical scooter looks. Its lines are dynamically stretched and flow horizontally with a low visual centre of gravity. The fairing with its windscreen, the luggage space behind the rider and the side stand for effortless parking ensure high suitability for everyday riding combined with a high degree of wind and weather protection.
