It was recently awarded the trophy "Boat of the Year" at the Croatia Boat Show. The second collaboration of this Bavarian connection is just about to be presented to the public. In April, the Cruiser 55, the biggest BAVARIA yacht to date, will be shown for the very first time at the Salo Nàutic Internacional de Palma on Majorca. For the development of this milestone in the history of BAVARIA, the shipyard pinned its hopes on an extremely electrifying combination of affiliates. While Farr Yacht Design managed the boat construction, the Munich studio of BMW Group DesignworksUSA was responsible for the overall exterior design and styling concept. ![]() The 1130 Table Range: Strikingly Simple, Innovative Yet FamiliarFor Thonet, the Japanese designer Naoto Fukusawa has developed an extending table in wood with a convincing clear and simple form. The piece distinguishes itself through a harmonious interplay between its overall design and the perfectly balanced proportions of its detailing. Familiar, yet also unusual: with the 1130 range Naoto Fukusawa has again succeeded in sensitively reinterpreting an established form. Using classic materials, the resultis a design that unites traditional and contemporary concepts. The project stems from the friendship between James Irvine, creative director at Thonet and the internationally renowned Japanese designer Naoto Fukusawa. Fukasawa's ability to reduce a design to the essential is unmistakably evident in the clear formal language of the 1130 range. His designs are unobtrusive, thus engendering a familiarity that evokes notions of the archetypical. In the 1130 range of tables the rectangular tabletop with its rounded edges sits on four cylindrical legs. The tables come in two different sizes: as an extending variety with two folding leaves contained in the body of the table, and as a simple non-extending variety. more The 1130 Table Range: Strikingly Simple, Innovative Yet Familiar added by Levent OZLER |
![]() The Distinctive 404 H Barstool by Stefan DiezQuirky, unique and comfortable - just like the whole prize-winning 404 family - Thonet presents the three-legged 404 H barstool by Stefan Diez with its distinctive, saddle-like seat.Sit down and experience the unexpected, yet pleasant, bounce. Stefan Diez once again proves that the Thonet heritage ofwood-working can be interpreted in a contemporary and unconventional way. The seat of the 404 H is an organically-shaped, comfortable saddle that lends the 404 its extraordinary form. The elevation of the rear part of the seat provides overall support, especially for the lower back. On sitting down, the seat has an unexpected springiness, thus enabling an active-even dynamic-sitting experience. The base ring features a slip-resistant and non-abrasive border. The seat is completely embedded into the depth of the legs, which provides the necessary stability and mirrors the backrest of the 404 chairs. more The Distinctive 404 H Barstool by Stefan Diez added by Levent OZLER |
![]() Sustainable Design: Designing Sustainable Products and ServicesSustainable design processes can improve the sustainability of products and services whilst helping designers and manufacturers reduce costs.Following on from the highly successful invitation-only forum in 2008, BSI British Standards is holding a sustainable design conference and an accompanying workshop to explore best practice across the design industry. As well as updating delegates on the latest sustainable design initiatives and the standards available to assist design processes, the conference includes practical case studies which illustrate how and where sustainability can be built into the design process. This year, the event will feature streamed sessions on four key design areas: product design; packaging; services and events; and communication and graphic design. Plenary sessions will explore how businesses can design sustainably in a recession, and provide clarification on terminology and metrics. Speakers include Martin Charter, Director of The Centre for Sustainable Design and Chris Sherwin, Head of Innovation at Forum for the Future. The pre-conference workshop, Design for remanufacture, aims to enhance understanding of the remanufacturing process, and encourage the design of products and components which enable remanufacture. Delegates will also have the opportunity to take part in discussion sessions and give their opinions on ways of educating and training designers and cross-sector co-operation. event (ended) current design events more info www.bsi...
