Braam de Klerk: Winner of the 2007 Design Achievers AwardBraam de Klerk, a fourth year Information Design student from the University of Pretoria received top honours at the annual Design Achievers award function held on 16 June in Kyalami.
Braam developed a concept for Trans Trash, a bus service and a garbage removal system, effectively merging two separate services into one.
Braam will attend a student workshop in Stuttgart, Germany, sponsored by the SABS Design Institute.
The adjudicators of the programme said that Braam is a winner because of his complete willingness to engage in dialogue with everyone around him.
He is aware of his context as a South African designer and fully embraces the challenges while maintaining a highly professional standard.
Runner-up was Riaan Rhode, a visual communication student from the University of Stellenbosch.
Riaan developed a concept to provide art training at disadvantaged schools.
The art generated is used in a poster campaign to make the public aware of the learners needs.
He receives an honorarium sponsored by Jacques Lange and an offer of mentorship.
