Month of Dutch Design: Dutch Design Wows MadridOn 28 February 2008 Dutch Design Month will be launched in Madrid.
This is the first time Madrid has hosted an event on this scale showcasing design from just one country.
Events will be colourful and varied, and will include exhibitions, exchanges between art and design academies, a Dutch Design route taking in more than 20 Madrid boutiques, and a series of readings, debates and matchmakings.
For example, there will be a reading by Hella Jongerius (whose work is sold by international design companies like Vitra), exhibitions on the Golden Age of graphic design (at the Carlos de Amberes Foundation) and Gerrit Rietveld (at the National Museum of Decorative Arts), and a display of urban/product design at the contemporary art centre Matadero Madrid.
The Design Month is being organised by the Dutch Embassy in Madrid, in collaboration with Spanish and Dutch partners.
The idea is to celebrate both the international success of Dutch Design, and the prominent place given to design by outward-looking local authorities and institutes in Madrid.
