Designing Politics - the Politics of DesignThe Foundation HfG Ulm, in continuation of the former Hochschule fur Gestaltung's principles, presents this year's design competition, coordinated by the IFG Ulm GmbH.
Submissions are open for projects that address the social and political responsibility of design, using for the third year running the title of "Designing Politics - the Politics of Design".
This event will be held as an open and international competition with all projects being submitted via an Internet application process.
As with previous years, it is visually represented by a design brand.
This year's motif has emerged from a founded competition at yale Univeristy School of Art, New York, under the direction of Daniel van der Velden.
The decision to select the design motif by Mary Voorhees was made by the Advisory Board of the IFG Ulm GmbH after consideration of a total of nearly 20 submissions, of which all were of a high artistic standard.
Mary Voorhees is a graduate architect of Princeton University and is currently studying for a M.F.A in graphic design at Yale School of art, New York.
Mary Voorhees explains: "My poster was inspired by the tension within the competition title 'Designing Politics - The Politics of Design.' I was interested in the way the second half of the title modifies, and nearly contradicts, the first half.
Assuming the voices behind the phrase, I became the participants within the scene in which the title might materialise.
The resulting image is a single snapshot, a moment's observance, of this continual revision."
