Perfect Car Design for the LadiesWhile male drivers crave leather seats and walnut dashboards, the ideal car interior for women includes a built-in vacuum cleaner and trim which changes colour to co-ordinate with their clothes, a Coventry University researcher has found.
A survey of female motorists by student Alex Watkin also found they wanted lightweight doors, oversized buttons and controls, and a magnifying mirror in the sun visor to aid make-up application.
Alex, 22, from Bloxham, Oxfordshire, carried out extensive research with various groups of women to find their ideal vehicle interior.
His survey forms part of his final-year project on the Transport Design course and will be presented at the annual Art and Design Degree Show, which is open to the public and runs from June 12-17.
He said: "I decided to research this area of design because I felt that women's opinions on car interiors tended to be overlooked in a male-dominated industry."
He discovered that women feel the need to personalise the interior of the vehicle, so he has designed it to change colour to suit the occupant's mood and outfit.
There is a built-in projector, which can project any image on to the dashboard.
The driver can simply save images on to a CD, insert the disc into the CD player and then the images will appear on the dashboard.
