Sony to Launch 2 Successor Models to Psx in JulySony Corp. said Wednesday it will release two successor models to its PSX entertainment gadget on July 1, offering expanded recording functions.
The PSX combines functions of a digital versatile disc recorder with those of the company's blockbuster home video game console, PlayStation 2.
When Sony first launched the PSX in December 2003, the company made a surprise scaling back on its original specifications. It has since offered upgrading programs to make up for the reduced functions.
The successor models are fully equipped with up-to-date functions, as well as new functions such as additional recording capability.
Of the new models, the DESR-7100 with a 250-gigabyte hard disk drive is expected to sell for 95,000 yen, and the DESR-5100 with a 160-GB HDD is seen to sell for 74,000 yen.
Sony will also provide an upgrading program to existing PSX machines, the third of its kind, from July 15.
