Sony-Ericsson Handsets HotHandset sales jumped this year for Sony-Ericsson Mobile Communications after a change of focus to product designs and user friendly and trendy features, its senior executives have said.
Jan Wareby, the group's head of sales and marketing, said Sony-Ericsson has introduced several popular phones, which helped it ring in a 66-per-cent jump in first quarter sales from the same period last year.
"In the mobile-phone business, it's very much up to product design," he said. Important features these days include imaging, entertainment, connectivity and ease of use, which is what made the T610 model so popular.
Tong Kai Loong, Sony-Ericsson's senior manager of Asia Pacific product marketing, said the company plans to introduce more phones with colour displays, which are popular.
This week Sony-Ericsson will ship its latest model, the S700, to Japan, followed by the K700 in the fourth quarter.
"We expect good results from these new two models as the S700's interface is actually better than the T610's and it has higher colour resolution, which has become very important for consumers' buying-decisions, " he said.
Although features like fancy ring tones and digital cameras are popular, Sony-Ericsson has not overlooked the basics, like sound quality.
