A Key Chain Drive On SteroidsThe Key019 from Philips is a Swiss Army knife for the digital age. It doesn't do any one thing great, but it does four things pretty well for such a small device. All it needs now is a toothpick and tweezers.
If you're already familiar with the key chain storage drives that are popping up all over the place, then you'll immediately get the idea of the Key019. But think of a key chain drive back from a summer of working out at training camp, looking buff and having learned a few new skills.
For starters, it has an integrated digital still and video camera. It's capable of shooting stills at a resolution to 2 megapixels, which is better than most cameras embedded into mobile phones. Its lack of programmable settings makes it idiot-proof.
A few pictures we took around the office came back looking decent, better than images we've taken with a few camera phones. But you'll want to shoot mostly outdoors during the day. When we took a few shots at a friend's apartment during a dinner party, image quality degraded significantly. It can store up to 200 pictures, but the next version could use a flash. It won't replace your full-featured digital camera.
It can also shoot about 25 minutes worth of MPEG4 video. The video quality was good, and we were surprised to find that the device had captured sound as well.
