Wheely Great Design For ShedComplementing the design of Priorsford Primary School’s new state-of-the art bike shed, local councilor Graham Garvie said the £12000 facility was more like a “beautiful building” as he officially unveiled it in front of pupils, parents and teachers on Tuesday afternoon.
Domed in appearance and made of clear perspex, the shed holds up to 40 bikes and has proved popular with kids since it was first made available to them at the beggining of term.
Part funded by the National Lottery, which matched £5000 raised by the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and offered an additional £2000 through its Millennium Fund scheme, the new cycle shed has also been welcomed by parents of the pupils who will use it on a regular basis.
Councillor Garvie said: “This has been a fantastic team effort by the PTA, schoolteachers and all of the people involved in this exercise, particularly Amanda Kubie of the PTA, David Cunningham of Scottish Borders Council and Maxine Lowrie of Lothian and Borders Police.
“Obtaining £7000 from the National Lottery Fund and £5000 from the PTA is a fantastic achievement.” ;
Turning his attention to the youngsters he continued: “When I was your age I used to crave to go to school by car but I had to go by bike because we didn’t have cars in my day —that’ s how old I am.
