Singapore Government to Promote DesignThe government is making a big push in the area of design.
It wants to ensure that both consumers and entrepreneurs in Singapore understand the importance of good design, as a way of life or a business strategy.
Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Lee Boon Yang told reporters in Venice that the Designs Act would be amended soon to make it easier for designers to register their designs.
Dr Lee said the Design Singapore Council is tying up with various industry sectors like furniture makers, interior designers and architects to help them promote the concept of good design.
More awards, development grants and pioneer programmes are also being set up to encourage businesses to invest in good design.
In addition, the council will even run an overseas promotion programme to pay for promising designers to showcase their work in international exhibitions.
These efforts will go towards creating a conducive environment for designers to offer well-designed works with a Singapore accent.
