Renault Expects Quick Approval for China Car PlanAsia Pulse reports that Renault will, before the end of the year, submit a final proposal for a Chinese car assembly joint venture Dongfeng Automobile.
The report cited remarks made by Renault boss Louis Schweitzer at the weekend, when he accompanied French president Jacques Chirac at the opening of the Design d'en France exhibition at the National Museum in Beijing.
According to Asia Pulse, Renault wants to build 150,000 cars per year in China from 2007, doubling output to 300,000 by around 2010.
"We expect to have a formal proposal by the end of the year," Schweitzer told reporters. "We hope approval will come rapidly.
But the situation in China – the market being what it is – we want to be careful not to over invest," Schweitzer reportedly said.
