DigitalLife: Fashion Week for GeeksThe "boat show" of the digital world kicks off this week in New York City, offering consumers a look at what's hot this holiday season.
DigitalLife, sponsored by parent Ziff-Davis Media, is not a trade show, like the for-now defunct Comdex exposition or even the popular E3 video-game showcase held each spring. Instead, the event is designed to let the consumer play with the e-toys retailers are beginning to place on their shelves.
DigitalLife is expected to showcase new products from Dell, Research In Motion's BlackBerry division, Toshiba, and TiVo, among others.
"There are other industry events, CES in January, for example, with a different intention—en ergizing the channel to carry the new products in the year ahead," said Jim Hasl, vice president of the event marketing group at Ziff-Davis. "At this point in the season, we're trying to talk to actual buyers—consu mers who will be making the actual purchases," he said.
"There's no other event in technology designed around the consumers themselves," Hasl added.
The event will run from October 14 to 17 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, opening its doors to consumers on Thursday evening. Ziff-Davis executives said they have 100 exhibitors signed up, and expect approximately 25,000 attendees. Individual tickets will be priced at between $8
