Seoul Design Festival 2004 OpensAn international design festival is underway in Seoul, and artists from around the globe are showcasing creative as well as practical innovations. Organizers also hope the event will highlight the unique qualities of Korean design.
Hang as many clothes as you want from these hooks. That's the idea behind the innovative hooks designed by Sweden's Thomas Bernstrand presently exhibiting in this year's Seoul Design Festival which runs till Sunday. "Both Mattias and I, we do conceptual art, there's always a meaning added to it, so it's not just about a shape. We start with an idea and then we put a shape on that idea," he said.
The two Swedes designed this lamp, called "Accurate." The light hangs from the ceiling by a standard electric cord, and even though the cord is attached off-centre, the lampshade still hangs incongruously straight.
"Prior to this festival, there really was no formal venue for local designers to meet with international peers to share their ideas and design styles. I hope the event serves as an opportunity for foreigners to discover the unique nature of Korean design, as well as allowing our designers to seek ways to access an audience overseas."
