The Nokia 616 Car Kit

At the Nokia Mobility Conference, Nokia today presented a new Car Kit that greatly enhances the use of mobile phones in the vehicle.* The Nokia 616 is compliant with Bluetooth Specification V1.1 and supports not only the Bluetooth SIM Access profile** but also the Bluetooth Handsfree Profile V1.0. The new product automatically adapts its operating mode to match the capabilities of the mobile phone. The Nokia 616 Car Kit is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2005 in Europe, Africa and selected countries in the Asian Pacific realm.

"The fact that the Nokia 616 can also be used in Handsfree mode makes it compatible with a significantly greater number of mobile phones", says Uwe Pertz, General Manager Consumer Products, Nokia Automotive, citing one of the major advantages of the new Advanced Wireless Car Kit. "Both operating modes let the user transfer phonebook contacts via Bluetooth wireless technology and intuitively operate the phone using the NaviÔ wheel."

When using Bluetooth SIM Access mode, the Nokia 616 works as a car phone with access to the external SIM card located in the mobile phone.
