Top Toy List Released: Robo Sapien and 20Q as The Best Battery Operated ToysThe Canadian Toy Testing Council's annual report on the best toys released on Wednesday, gives a nod to both Robo Sapien and 20Q as the best battery-operated toys on the market.
Robo Sapien, a programmable robot, walks, dances and picks things up with its hands. It sells for $120.
20Q, on the other hand, retails for $20-$25. It's round, about the size of a yo-yo, and plays the old game of 20 questions. Aimed at eight-year-olds and up, the device asks the questions and guesses what object the child is thinking of.
The report makes recommendations for toys intended for toddlers to early teens, and intended to satisfy a range of interests.
"We have your basic construction toys; we have imaginative play for children, developmental, educational toys for all ages, electronics, right into really new and innovative technology," said Leigh Poirier, the council's executive director.
The full list of recommended toys is available at the council's website. The council says every toy on the list is of equal excellence.
The council has volunteer families test toys on an ongoing basis, rating them for durability, safety, design, function, ease of assembly, battery consumption and overall play value.
