Wai Loong Lim: Have Passion, Will CreateIt is said that designers are people with a desire to create. Well, Wai-Loong Lim, a 37-year-old industrial designer from Penang, has certainly proved that he has a passion to create - be it shoes or a digital music system.
Industrial designers, also called product designers, are those who create the look and feel of new products - everything from aeroplanes to can openers and computers.
Lim, who started his career working for an industrial design studio in Singapore, has been responsible for the development of consumer products, furniture, industrial equipment, medical products, graphics and interface design, for more than 10 years now.
Today, he runs his own industrial design studio, Y Studios in Menlo Park, California, where he has been living for the past eight years.
As an industrial designer who has lived and worked in four different countries - he studied in Canada briefly - Lim brings a fresh perspective to the design process with his rich cultural background and diverse experience.
"I have always been interested in drawing and sketching," Lim told In.Tech, when we managed to pin down the energetic designer during his brief stopover in Kuala Lumpur while on a business trip in the region.
