Mercedes Benz Design Center Planned for BeijingDaimlerChrysler plans to set up a Mercedes-Benz design center in Beijing this year and expand its R&D organ in Shanghai, according to a high-ranking official of DaimlerChrysler, who is attending the on-going Shanghai auto show.
According to the official, the Mercedes-Benz production project in Beijing is going well, and is expected to start production of Mercedes-Benz cars in the second half of this year.
The company also plans to complete the move of its Beijing Jeep manufacturing facility to a new factory in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone in late 2005 or early 2006.
The official pledged that the Mercedes-Benz cars made in Beijing will reach the global quality requirements of the company.
Starting in 2004, Damler-Chrysler is expected to make a total investment of 1.2 billion euro over five years aimed at expanding its China operation.
