Finnish Architect Alvar Aalto's Designs on Display in BeijingDesigns by the great Finnish architect Alvar Aalto went on display Tuesday, at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing.
The show includes more than 90 pieces -- models, pictures, furniture, light and glass containers -- all loaned by Finland's Aalto Museum.
Alvar Aalto, born in 1898, made great contributions to world architecture through his advocacy for putting function first in architecture design.
From 1921 to 1976, Aalto participated in many important projects and designed nearly 100 single-family houses.
According to the organizer, Aalto always believed in providing each person a better residence, which reflected his sense of responsibility as an architect and desire for social progress as a citizen.
His well-known furniture design abandoned the classical style and turned to fully display the beauty of wood in nature. The show will end at the end of May and move to Shanghai on July 19.
