Motorola Aims to Lead 3G Phone Market With Better Design and PortfolioMotorola says it wants to lead the 3G phone market with superior design and a strong product portfolio.
The world's number 2 handset maker has launched 14 new models at CommunicAsia, four of which are 3G phones.
Motorola aims to catch up with market leader Nokia while keeping number 3 player Samsung at bay.
It says it is well-positioned in the 3G market, leveraging on first mover advantage and targeting on high growth markets in Asia.
Asked how Motorola intends to catch up with Nokia, David Taylor, director of strategic operations at Motorola, replied, "One of the them is to make sure we have a very aggressive product portfolio and today here, we have a number of products being launched, which further establishes our products as being one of the leading products in this industry.
"We are also focusing on design icons.
We have a product here called the PEBL V6 which looks completely different from any other phone, iconic design and it has a unique method of opening the phone.
So it's really focusing on design to make sure that we keep ahead of competition, especially Nokia."
On whether he saw 3G as a turning point for Motorola, Mr Taylor said, "Partly, yes, because it allows us to establish ourselves with a new technology in a marketplace, whereas in some markets where maybe we are not leading at the mome
