Alfa Romeo Wins Top BMW Design AwardThe Alfa Romeo 8C Spider, the Italian car maker's proposal for a range topping supercar, has scooped the BMW Group Design Award, along with the Villa d'Este Design Award, at Europe's leading classic car and design event, the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance, held alongside Lake Como, north of Milan.
Judged by the tens of thousands of guests at the Concours d'Elegance, the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider was picked as the best concept car at the event, fighting off rivals from around the world.
The Alfa Romeo 8C Spider is the open top version of the Alfa Romeo 8c Competizione concept car that was displayed around the world, including Australia's Sydney International Motor Show, in 2003 and 2004.
Designed and developed at the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, the original 8c Competizione, like the new 8C Spider, was designed to provide an icon for Alfa Romeo, evoking the great sports car tradition of which the name is part.
