Polish Architect Designs Copenhagen Bridge

Cezary Bednarski, a Polish architect living in Britain, has won an international competition to design a bridge to be built over Copenhagen's Inner Harbour.

The design by Studio Bednarski, made jointly with the engineering company Flint & Neill, beat nine other projects, including one by the world-famous architect Zaha Hadid.

Bednarski has designed a 180 metre-long sliding construction, with a 50 metre-long opening span that will allow ships and boats to pass through.

The bridge is to be used by pedestrians and cyclists.

People will be able to stand on viewing platforms at the edge of the navigation channel, even when the bridge is open.
