Pantone 2010 Multi-Discipline Forecast

Pantone announced the release of the summer 2010 edition of the PANTONE VIEW Colour Planner, its cross-discipline color forecasting tool, titled "Magic."

Summer 2010 celebrates the power to imagine and change through color. The season's magical palette represents the colors of an optimistic future through imaginative, expressive color combinations and harmonies that reassure, but also dazzle. Magic opens up a world of infinite possibilities and offers the belief that we have the power to improve and change things. Magic is what science has yet to understand, prove and assimilate.

"In this current retail climate, unique and magical design becomes that much more essential. Designers need to find innovative ways to excite their clients and ignite their passions. While consumers are looking for good value and are purchasing less, they are still willing to buy that special item that catches their eye," said Laurie Pressman, vice president of fashion, home and interiors at Pantone. "PANTONE VIEW Colour Planner provides the insight designers need to stay ahead of the trends and make smart, savvy color decisions."

PANTONE VIEW Colour Planner showcases eight palettes for use in women's wear, menswear, active wear, cosmetics, interiors, industrial design and graphics:

- Inspired by dawn and dusk, Shadowplay goes beyond simple neutrals and monochromes to embrace luminosity or the total absence of it, putting shapes, contours and silhouettes in the forefront.
- Mirage offers a simple, warm and natural summer "white" look that's followed around by soft tinted cool shadow neutrals that define new natural innovations.
- In a world where the best of man and machine come together to create something spiritual and peaceful, Hypnotic features colors that are rich, pictorial, sensitive and changing.
- Inspired by glass and liquid, Alchemy is full of color with an essential skinny beige that creates a pivotal spot between the orange/yellow and the pink/purple groups.
- With colors spun from magic and radiating energy, Talisman is almost a rainbow featuring a spectrum of color mixed with precious particles. These shades can be applied to classic materials, organic shapes and color-changing applications.
- Tale is a story of hushed yet dramatic colors, meditative and reflective, for classic shapes, essential looks, the magic of simplicity and true well-being.
- Exempt from egomania and complacency, Shamanism combines warm, natural colors to reflect a world of austerity and balance.
- Paper white, yellowed parchment, royal blue and the hues of oriental inks make up Spellbound, a palette inspired by our endless need to pass on stories and wisdom to each other.

Published bi-annually, 18-24 months ahead of the season, the PANTONE VIEW Colour Planner is based on the PANTONE FASHION + HOME Color System, the most widely used and recognized color standard in the world. It is produced by a team of leading visionaries from all over the world with expertise in different disciplines, providing a comprehensive color forecasting service for multiple design areas, including men's and women's apparel, beauty, interior and industrial design. Within each of the season's most directional color palettes, a general introduction outlines the colors included and the philosophy behind them. In addition, a specific breakdown of each palette covers harmonies, suggested color combinations, and suitable patterns and fabrics according to end use. Individual color swatch cards for all 59 colors are also included.
