Alessi's Hellraiser Wins 2011 Interior Design Best of Year Award

On December 1, 2011, in a ceremony at the IAC Building in New York City attended by over 900 members of the architecture and design community, the "Hellraiser" collection designed by Karim Rashid for Alessi was recognized by Interior Design magazine as a Best of Year winner in product design.

Introduced for Alessi's Spring/Summer 2011 collection, the Hellraiser collection consists of a basket, tray and fruit bowl, all featuring cut-out shapes and available in stainless steel and stainless steel coated in epoxy resin. The collection signifies a departure for Rashid who is known for his amorphous and organic shapes; the hard, sharp lines of Hellraiser are reminiscent of an urban landscape and offer a unique juxtaposition to the fruits and vegetables that the collection is meant to display.

"Our relationship with Karim is a valuable and ongoing one, and we are thrilled that Interior Design has honored his collection for us with a Best of Year Award," commented Paolo Cravedi, Managing Director of Alessi USA. The collection won in the Accessories - General category.

Interior Design Editor in Chief Cindy Allen and President and Publisher Mark Strauss announced winners live at the sixth annual Awards, where honorees were selected by interior designers and architects during an online vote from October 3-10. A jury of leading architects and designers then determined the winners.
