Merit Awards for Studio O+A at IIDA Northern California Gala

The San Francisco design firm Studio O+A picked up Merit Awards in two categories at IIDA Northern California Honor Awards ceremonies at Oakland's Fox Theatre.

In the "Work Big" competition O+A was recognized for offices in the planning department of a confidential technology client in Redmond, Washington. "The challenge," according to IIDA's Merit Citation "was to make the space a prototype of the work being done there, to build into the design a future that its users are in the process of inventing."

O+A's headquarters for the San Francisco data analysis firm Quid took the Merit Award in the "Work Small" category. Judges noted the playful use of finishes, graphics and trompe l'oeil effects in a design "slightly British and lightly retro [that was]

in keeping with the London/Oxford pedigree of the company's founders."

On hand to pick up the awards were O+A founders Primo Orpilla and Verda Alexander, Director of Design Denise Cherry, Director of Projects Perry Stephney and much of the 22-person firm's design staff.
