World Design Capital 2012

World Design Capital 2012

The World Design Capital is a biennial designation given to a city based on its achievements and commitment to design as an effective tool for social, cultural and economic progress.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 by the managing organization of the World Design Capital project, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid).

The World Design Capital project focuses on the essence of design and its possibilities to impact urban spaces, economies and citizens.

The project highlights the designated city through a 12-month program of design-related events.

The first World Design Capital was Turin (Torino) of Italy in 2008, designated as a pilot project.

The World Design Capital 2010 will be the South Korean capital Seoul, selected through a formal bidding process.
