New AIGA Leadership Joins National Board of Directors: Debbie Millman Assumes Presidency

The newly elected board of directors for AIGA, the professional association for design, begins its term today.

AIGA professional members elected seven new directors through elections held in March for the 15-person national board of AIGA.

Assuming the presidency is Debbie Millman, a longtime AIGA member, branding expert and respected voice in the design profession.

Outgoing president Sean Adams will remain involved in an ex officio role.

As the new directors assume their roles, AIGA recognizes those who have just completed their three-year terms, a period marked by numerous accomplishments.

AIGA membership and number of chapters have grown; the association has gained greater international recognition as a leading voice in design and design education; AIGA has held extraordinarily successful design and business conferences; it has completed the digitization of its archives from its first eight decades; and it has become more involved in socially responsible areas of design.

Following extended research into the needs and interests of members, the 2008-2009 board advanced a mandate for change in AIGA direction to serve new generations with unanimous support from leaders of all 64 chapters.
