Pininfarina announced today that it has collaborated with The Coca-Cola Company on the industrial design for its proprietary fountain beverage dispenser known as "Coca-Cola Freestyle". Coca-Cola Freestyle utilizes innovative technology to dispense more than 100 different sparkling and still beverages from a single freestanding unit. The dispenser is entering market testing this summer.
The new self-serve fountains have been in development for over four years. Pininfarina Extra - the Company of the Pininfarina Group specialized in product and interior design - collaborated with the Coca-Cola industrial design team to develop the sleek new units. Each unit is touch screen operated, enabling consumers to select from more than 100 brands, including waters, juices, teas, sports drinks and sparkling beverages.
"Working for The Coca-Cola Company was an exciting experience - explained Paolo Pininfarina, President and CEO of Pininfarina Extra. "The common ground between Coca-Cola and Pininfarina is innovation. The lines of the Coca-Cola Freestyle were created with the user in mind, paying particular attention to aesthetic innovation and functionality. We believe the result is a product that is essential, advanced, and serviceable."
The Coca-Cola Freestyle dispenser uses proprietary PurePour Technology to make dozens of branded beverages fresh to order, in the same amount of space as the current eight-valve machine. It will be tested in select quick-serve restaurants in Orange County, Calif., and Atlanta this summer before a wider introduction currently planned for early next year.
