GDC Foundation Launches National Scholarship for Graduate Students in Design Research

The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) Foundation has launched its first scholarship program for graduate students in Canada.

The Marc Brisbourne Scholarship Fund has been created through a generous donation from the GDC Alberta North Chapter to provide a scholarship for a graduate student pursuing research with a focus on graphic and visual communication design at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

The $500 GDC Foundation Marc Brisbourne Scholarship award was created in honour of Marc Brisbourne, MacEwan University Chair of Design Studies, who passed away in early February 2013. Marc earned his Master of Design degree from the University of Alberta in 2005. He was passionate about design research and education and well respected in the design community.

"This new fund allows the GDC Foundation to support a higher level of education in the graphic and visual communication design field, and encourage design research which will benefit the profession and Canada," commented Peggy Cady, GDC Foundation Committee Chair. "We are pleased to be able to honour Marc Brisbourne's memory and his contributions to design education in this manner."

The scholarship is open to any GDC member who is a Masters or Doctoral degree student pursuing research with a focus on graphic and visual communication in Canada at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

The deadline for applications is April 15, 2013.
