The IGF was established in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers, in the way that the Sundance Film Festival has benefited independent filmakers. The festival is organized by the CMP Game Group.

Independent Games Festival
A festival to encourage growth and competition between independent game developers. It is held at the Game Developer Conference and open to anyone who is not funded by an established publisher.
