World Industrial Design Day 2018

World Industrial Design Day 2018

For 2018, the theme for World Industrial Design Day is 'Design's impact on good health and well-being.' World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) is an international day of observance celebrated throughout the world in recognition of the establishment of the World Design Organization (WDO) on June 29.

First declared in 2007 on the organization's 50th anniversary, WIDD increases awareness of the profession of industrial design and champions the power of design to strengthen economic, social, cultural, and environmental development.

This year's deceptively simple theme speaks to a complex set of factors and conditions that determine the level of quality of life of every human being. In addition to individual characteristics, behavior and genetic makeup, research has shown that health is influenced by certain socio-economic factors, such as physical recreation, access to nutritious food, living and working conditions, as well as by environmental factors, such as air quality and noise and the design of communities and transportation systems. As a result, the achievement of the SDG for good health is strongly interlinked with other areas related to sustainable development.

Through a series of activities such as panel discussions, workshops, exhibits, networking events and in alignment with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #3: Good Health and Well-being, WIDD 2018 will explore the many ways design can help improve our physical, social, mental and emotional development.
