Neil Barron at Gusto Design Ltd was asked to design this innovative product based around a number of patented technologies, focused on making the core technology smaller.
Gusto have used this as a design opportunity to make a product that looks small and sleek, yet very high value.
The use of gloss surfaces in the polycarbonate upper mouldings was both practical and aesthetic.
The clinician will often have gel on their hands and sometimes gloves.
The choice of black as the majority colour was taken in close consultation with the client and users - the approach was to largely reject white as the traditional medical equipment colour in favour of something which would communicate sophisticated contemporary design values to both sets of user - the clinician and their client.
Gusto worked with the in house engineering team in order to make a number of user centred features such as touch sensitive controls, a flush handset which is magically presented to the user on touching the product logo and quick and easy access for any user maintenance and consumable replacement.
A multitude of drawings, CAD models and soft block models were used to develop and refine the product. Gusto were responsible for the whole of the external design, colours and finishes plus the user centred design and development of a new graphic interface.
