TypeCon 2004 - Type High

TypeCon 2004: Type High

Presented by the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) in partnership with the San Francisco Center for the Book and the California College of the Arts, TypeCon2004 explores San Francisco's rock art culture of the 60s-70s, and the amazing film titles of that era; multicultural design; deconstructed typography; design education; and many more contemporary and historical topics.

Take a trip through the now and then of type, design, and all things relative. Your guides on this journey will be Ed Benguiat, Roger Black, Matthew Carter, Firehouse, David Lance Goines, Michael Harvey, House Industries, Max Kisman, Victor Moscoso, Jim Parkinson, Freda Sack, Erik Spiekermann, Sumner Stone, Underware, Armin Vit, and other fine minds.

Twenty hands-on workshops cover everything from letterpress printing, showcard lettering, Asian calligraphy, and Renaissance handwriting to digital font production, type for mobile devices, and expert typography. An international exhibition of type and design will be on display throughout the conference.

TypeCon2004 is the essential event for everyone who makes fonts, works with type, or has a passion for letters. Conference admission is $165 pro/$100 student through June 9, or $195/$115 June 10-July 12.
