Winners of the Future of Urban Parking Design Competition

An international design competition, launched by Nissan, has seen designers from across the world submit their own creatives to showcase their interpretation of the Future of Urban Parking.

With inner city parking an ever increasing issue, Nissan challenged the design world to cast their inspiration into the future and develop the ultimate urban-proof parking solution. The one requirement was the inclusion in some form of Nissan's iconic urban crossover the Nissan Qashqai.

Over 550 up and coming designers from across the globe submitted their unique and innovative designs to a panel of judges, including international designer Karim Rashid and UK art dealer and gallery owner Steve Lazarides.

From this, three outstanding entries were chosen for their cutting-edge, original nature and forward-thinking styles.

1. Rotary Parking Machine by Tanzim Hasan Salim from Bangladesh

2. Solasis Light Tower by Klaud Wasiak and Yongbang Ho from Canada

3. Parkscope designed by Davide Aquini from Italy

"I was not surprised by the quality of entries to this design competition - future thinking is what excites the design community," commented Karim Rashid, one of the members of the jury. "Looking at the winning designs and the challenges that many urban areas face, you can see how all three could come to life. The Rotary Parking Machine is such an obvious yet original solution, you would have thought that it would already exist."

"At Nissan, we challenge ourselves to try to do things differently and find alternative solutions. By extending that challenge to the design community we have been inspired with the response," said Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Marketing Communication General Manager, Nissan Europe. "We use the term 'urbanproof' to describe our Qashqai model and by that we mean it is not only built to survive but actually enjoys the pace and playfulness of urban life - the city is its playground. The winning designs are very much in line with this positioning and we will be proud to use elements of these entries in our above-the-line communications for the new Qashqai next year."

Nissan in Europe are now considering using these creatives in their above-the-line media communications.
