Hamilton-C2 ICU Ventilator Wins Medical Design Excellence Award

Cannon Communications has announced that leading medical equipment developer Hamilton Medical and RKS have been awarded a Medical Design Excellence Award for the HAMILTON-C2 ICU Ventilator.

The Medical Design Excellence Awards competition is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of design and engineering features that improve healthcare delivery, change traditional medical attitudes or practices, and provide enhanced benefits to the patient.

The innovative HAMILTON-C2 features Hamilton's unique "Ventilation Cockpit" with an intelligent touch-screen interface that gives operators a quick, at-a-glance, dashboard display that provides operators exactly the information they need and helps them focus on what's important. The approachable and intuitive display of the C2 tilts to accommodate different operator positions. With inbuilt batteries and weighing less than 21 pounds the C2 can accompany a patient anywhere within the hospital, independently of central gas and power supplies. Patients don't have to be disconnected for transport, increasing patient safety and comfort, while at the same time reducing operator workload.

The HAMILTON-C2 was developed with a keen awareness that emotions can play an important role in patient recovery. Because patients, loved ones, and ICU personal all benefit from a design that reduces anxiety and stress, the RKS team developed a design language for the C2 that is inviting and reassuring. The C2 leans forward, engagingly, offering a confident and smart display. The C2 evokes a friendly personality, while still giving everyone in the room confidence that it's a ventilator upon which you can trust your life.

The HAMILTON-C2 has previously been recognized in ID Magazine's Annual Design Review and with both Good Design and Spark Awards. "It's extremely gratifying to see the HAMILTON-C2 be recognized not only by the design community, but by medical professionals as well," said Ravi Sawhney, RKS founder and CEO. "Hamilton Medical has long been a believer in the power of design to make real positive differences both on the bottom line and in people's lives. We're proud to have had the opportunity to lend our expertise to so many Hamilton projects."

The 2010 Medical Design Excellence Awards winners will be honored at a presentation ceremony on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 in New York City's Jacob K. Javitz Convention Center, in conjunction with the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition. Gold and Silver Award recipients will be announced at this time.
