Stylex Expands Mark 2 Seating Collection

Stylex announced the newest additions to its popular Mark 2 Collection designed by Mark Goetz. As of this fall, Bar & Counter Stools will complete the range. First designed by Goetz and introduced to the market in 2008 in the form of stackable Arm and Armless models as well as non-stacking Arm Chairs, Mark 2 is characterized by clean, rectilinear lines, a dramatically curved plywood back and thoughtful attention to detail.

Superior craftsmanship and generous, comfortable proportions - expressed in wood, fabric, and steel - define Mark 2's utility. The 16-gauge, recycled content steel frame is welded and polished making all joints invisible. This strong, rectilinear frame harmoniously contrasts with the gracefully curved plywood back.

Mark Goetz is an award-winning designer, professor at Pratt Institute and founder of the design firm TZDesign. In his 20-year design career, he has been responsible for numerous collections of furniture with a classically modern appeal. Among these are the Goetz Sofa for Herman Miller and more than 60 unique chairs for Bernhardt. After successfully collaborating with Stylex to create MG Lounge - the company's first lounge seating system - Mark designed the Mark 2 collection.

"Working with Stylex is a pleasure. They are a company that truly values craftsmanship. They consistently invest the development time required to take products to the highest level of excellence," commented Goetz. "In production, to create such seamlessly jointed frames, with this degree of precision, demands a major commitment to quality and an uncommon attention to detail."

Despite its refined appearance, Mark 2 is a practical and versatile product that may be specified with a fully upholstered back, a plywood back with upholstered panel, or a simple plywood back in a myriad of wood finishes - from the brand new whitewashed ash to dark cherry. Frames may be bright chrome, satin chrome or one of 12 powder coat colors. Both arm and armless chairs can be ordered in stacking or non-stacking configurations. Completing the line, the armless stool, available in counter and bar heights, is perfect for cafes, cafeterias and casual or more formal dining.
