Herman Miller and Design Partner Continuum Honored with Spark Awards

Reinforcing its long-standing reputation for thoughtfully designed interior healthcare solutions, Herman Miller Healthcare recently took home two prestigious Spark 2010 Design & Architecture Awards for its Compass system (Gold Spark) and Nala Patient Chair (Bronze Spark) - as a result of its ongoing collaboration with Continuum.

"The Spark 2010 Award is another testament to Herman Miller's commitment to the healthcare industry. Our positive partnerships with cutting-edge organizations like Continuum help us to bring world-class design to healing," said Herman Miller Healthcare President Beth Nickels. "We believe great design is important to creating environments that promote health, and we're proud to be acknowledged as a leader in providing solutions that meet the unique needs of patients and caregivers. We will continue to seek opportunities for design collaborations that allow us to provide the high-performance healthcare furniture and furnishing solutions important to hospitals and healthcare providers."

Promoting great design and designers, the Spark 2010 Design & Architecture Awards recognized Herman Miller Healthcare's Compass system and Brandrud's Nala Patient Chair because of their evidence-based design and stand-out attributes.

Compass System
Designed to adapt to the ever-changing healthcare environment, this award-winning modular system of interchangeable components can be used to create applications for patient rooms, caregiver work areas, and other clinical spaces. A valuable and needed solution for a variety of healthcare spaces, especially acute care, and outpatient facilities, Compass is an essential component to creating a welcoming aesthetic within a patient room. Beyond its visual appeal, Compass also provides an array of benefits that contribute to improving the experience of working, visiting and healing, including infection prevention, greater cleanability, and flexibility.

Nala Patient Chair
Launched in 2008, this highly esteemed interior seating solution establishes a new reference point for patient comfort while enabling enhanced caregiver access. Nala also provides the comfort, ergonomic principles, and technologies first demonstrated in Herman Miller's industry-leading work chair designs. With features that assist in patient entry and exit, including arms that swing up and out of the way and wheels that engage to move the chair closer to the patient bed, this seating solution considers the needs of caregivers and patients alike.
