Australian Design Alliance Announces Michael Bryce as Patron

The Australian Design Alliance announced Mr Michael Bryce AM, AE as its Patron. The Australian Design Alliance was launched at the Sydney Opera House in late 2010 to boost Australia's productivity, sustainability and innovation through design. It is the peak body for Australian design representing; architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, object and graphic design, fashion design, visual arts, craft and media arts, design awards and design education and research.

Mr Bryce gave a passionate speech at the launch when he said, "The Alliance is the beginning of a voice that could lift this country from its dependence on other people's ideas, from its apathy about the built environment, from a sense of us lagging behind in the innovation and creativity spectrum that some significant countries ... have already established."

The Alliance is pursuing the formulation of a national design policy linked to the innovation agenda and a number of key initiatives that will demonstrate the capacity of good design to contribute to improved economic growth and better outcomes across the full spectrum of public policy. Mr Bryce's wealth of knowledge and expertise will be invaluable to the Alliance as it undertakes this work.

Michael Bryce is an architect and designer acknowledged in Australia and overseas for his distinguished work in graphic, urban and environmental design. Mr Bryce has been described by Indesign Magazine as a design "luminary" and a design "catalyst". In 2006, he was inducted into the Australian Design Hall of Fame.
